FROM PHOTO EDITING TO JOURNALISM

“When you do change and you manage to get the thing that you want, it feels amazing.”

FROM PHOTO EDITING TO JOURNALISM

Lee Mannion had tried to make do with his unfulfilling job, but knew there was more out there for him. The Launch Pad helped him shift into work he's excited to go to, boosting his confidence in the process.

How did you feel about your work?

The work didn't seem to matter to me, I couldn’t see the point in doing it.

I think if you spend forty hours a week or more doing a job, then if you don't really like it, that's a pretty awful waste of time isn't it?

People might say that 'the people are nice' or that 'the company's quite good fun', but if underneath all that you’re not happy… You can kind of kid yourself into thinking everything's alright but you can only do that for so long.

I'd done that for fifteen years and I thought 'I don't want to be doing this when I'm 55 or 65'.

How are you feeling about your work (and your life) now?

It does wonders for your confidence, doing work that fulfils you.

You can stop boring all your friends about the fact that you hate your job!

You don't dread getting up in the morning. It's almost the opposite – you're getting up thinking ‘I'm going to do XYZ today, and that's going to be quite exciting’.

What have you learnt since the course that you'd share with others making a career change?

You can stay in the same job feeling unfulfilled, and just kid yourself that it's alright.

But I can only say that when you do change and if you manage to get the thing that you want, it feels amazing.

You can find full details about the course on our dedicated Launch Pad page.
