Nice to see another FTSE 100 big hitter announce a major career change. Richard Harvey, chief executive of Aviva, is going to swap his day job for charity work in Africa.

In September last year, Stanley Fink, chief exec at Man Group, also announced a major shift, deciding to focus his energies on private philanthropy work.

Their reasons? Richard was inspired by his daughter's gap year experience in Uganda while Stanley reassessed his priorities after a brain tumour in 2004.
