It's been a month since my last blog, and I suppose the important lesson I've learnt is that Rome wasn't built in a day.
Just because I returned from time out abroad in a positive state of mind, doesn't mean I'm going to jump into my dream job tomorrow. Especially in the current economic climate.
What I am finding particularly hard is that although I am a PA - with extensive experience working for a number of top City firms, I can't even get temporary work and my CV is hardly being put forward for roles. Also I find agencies frustrating as the majority of positions they advertise seem to be "on hold". With regard to the concept of the hidden job market I simply do not have the contacts out there to help.
On a brighter note however, when my CV has been placed out there, I do tend to get asked for interview and often reach the second stage process. I have even managed to interview for some charity roles which were of interest.
Over the four weeks I have worked my way through Careershifters' Top Tips tutorial series and have found the results interesting. I very much enjoy helping and inspiring people and I have a passion for writing. I am also very organised and I like to get things completed.
So, apart from job hunting, I have been proactive in my spare time and have started to work on various writing projects - something which I have neglected for a while. And I'm pleased to say the hard work has paid off - I have already had two articles and one of my travel photos accepted for publication. Also, I'm trying to keep focused by getting into a routine of running three times a week.
I'm hoping by my next blog I will have some type of work to help pay the bills. In the meantime I'm planning on stepping out of my comfort zone more and seeing what the world has to offer. Already I plan to attend a networking event for women to see if it can offer me any leads. I have to think lucky.
