Need a of serious change

By janjay

Hello

This is my first blog. I hope I will get advice and help from as many of you as possible who are still on this journey to effectively change career.

So where do I start? I don't like my current job. I actually dread going to work especially on Monday. It seems at the week end, I kind of forget that I have got a job but when the alarm rings on monday morning, it all comes back to me.

Why don't I just resign? In an ideal world  where money would grow on trees and housing, food would be free, I would in a heartbeat. Until then I m multitasking: going to work during the day, during the evening sending covering letters and my CV

So to start off ( again) I have got a degree in business communications and marketing. Graduated in 2004. I just have limited experience in advertising gained during my studies in Brussels. I was a trainee for 3months. I speak fluent french and english.
Because of my languages skills got a job in travel. I have been working as a travel agent for 4years now but I don t like it. Ideally I would return to a job more related to my degree.

I 'm particulary intrerested in publishing , marketing , media. I do realise that there is a lot of competition in those industries. So I m trying to find a different angle by adding my languages skills.

I m even looking into getting a job as a receptionist in a advertising agency but I have no luck, even getting an interview. I contacted the recutitment consultant to have some feedback on my application. She asked my why I wanted this job. I have got experience in customer service and take pride in my appereance. I thought this job would be a way to get into advertising. She did not seem to understand what it meant to be willing to change careers!!She just said that because it did not say anywhere on my cv, receptionist, that she would not forwad my cv to her client.

Then some other recruitment agencies contacted me , had a preliminary interview but now I m stuck. It been 2 weeks so I guess I did not make it to the second round of intreview ..again!!

Any of you working in publishing or a communication job? any advice welcome
