2008 Career Resolution

By Sab

I think most people enter the new year making resolutions, mine tend to be quite airy, large-concept style 'find the love of my life' 'get rich' wishes. But this year i'm really thinking about 'resolving' and committing, mostly to making this career change happen, but also to apply the same attitude to all areas of my life.

I realised that part of the reason why my path to finding my vocation has been long and not 100% committed is that i've had a tug of war going on inside me between the things i know i love, and the 'way the world works' / spoken + unspoken 'reality checks' / the 'shoulds'. And so my resolution for this year (indeed, for this life) is to resolve and commit 100% to honour things that make me happy, to be my true self every day. moreover to seek out environments and ways to be my true self, and lessen those that diminuish energy.

that doesn't necessarily mean everything will fall into place by the end of this year, but come 5 years i'm hoping so! and already i feel securer in who i am. i think it's just having solid resolve, and using that as an anchor when it's so easy to be swayed and pulled by other people's opinions on how things should be.

i can't tell you in this blog that i've hit on the perfect career yet, but this feels like the right mental state to be in to get me closer to something that's right for me.

  Now, onwards...
