The official start of my business

Okay, this is it, I really am on my own now .....

My contract expired on Friday, I've had the ritual leaver's embarrassment of cake, gifts and applause in the kitchen, and a very nice meal out with my boss and colleagues. I'm taking a couple of days off over this Bank Holiday weekend, but from Wednesday I'll be my own boss, trying to make this enterprise work.

I've actually made a little bit of a head start by selling my first advert!! I made a few introductory calls and set up a couple of meetings and the very first one yielded me a quarter page ad for the first six issues. A great start, but I'm going to need plenty more like that to make this profitable. I've got a few more appointments set up and lots of leads so the next couple of weeks are going to have me very busy on the phone.

I've also been busy on the editorial front, as I want this to be a truly local magazine with lots of engaging content. already I've got a regular column from the local museum and a feature on the local green movement in the bag, plus I'm hoping to interview someone from Williams F1 in the next week or so - as their HQ is in town.

So, exciting stuff! Just have to get it all coming together now ...
