Do you run a small project that makes a big difference in your community?

By Selina Barker

Community Channel is on the hunt for an innovative small project in the UK and the most inspiring one will win a short film made by photographer Fran Monks to be shown on Community Channel in Global Entrepreneurship Week in November. Fran Monks and the Channel have joined forces in the search for a small project that makes a BIG difference in its local community or on society at large.

The film will profile the winning project in Fran's unique photographic style. The project will be free to use the film to promote its work or raise funds. Media training provided by the Media Trust will also be part of the prize.

Fran Monks specialises in seeking out and promoting small innovative projects which in her view make the world a better place. Her recent film How to Make a Difference profiles Jamie Wallace who devised an online walking route planner called walkit.com and Julie Brown the founder of Growing Communities in Hackney, and many others.

"I really like to capture the faces and ideas of people whose determination, originality and entrepreneurial spirit are making the world a little bit better, in the hope that this provides inspiration and ideas for others with similar aims," Fran says. ”We’re looking for the next generation of entrepreneurs. If people are running a small project which is at least a year old, or are inspired by one in their area, thenthey must make sure they enter this unique competition.” said Media Trust's executive producer Jane Stephenson.

The competition runs until 14th October. The entries will be judged by Turning Point's chief executive Lord Adebowale, Fran Monks, and the Media Trust's executive producer Jane Stephenson.
