The event was packed with stalls representing organisations across life and career change, health and beauty, volunteering, and presentations given by cooks, eco-fashion companies and career coaches.
CareerShifters offered free 15 minute 1:1 sessions with some of their selected career coaches (many who have written articles and given advice on this website) - needless to say the sessions were booked up fast! There were lots of people who really wanted to talk to somebody about their career situation and I could see they were getting a lot out of talking to the coaches and the CareerShifters team. When you're at the beginning of a career shift, it can be a huge relief to be able to talk openly with someone who understands the process, and am sure these sessions will be catalysts for change.
Among some of the more unusual career choices from shifters at the show was "Audrey Hepburn look-alike" - inspired!
For me, I realised that I have reached the limit of my 'knowledge gathering' and self-analysis (I've been 'shifting' for a couple of years now), and am at a point where I need to bite the bullet and as Andrea Perry says in her new article, to go through a career door without being scared all other options and avenues will suddenly disappear! I think it can be easy to forget that there will be plenty of other things on the other side of the door, and that you don't just walk into a narrow empty corridor. This rings true for all career changers, no matter how early or far along you are in your career change.
