Career Inspiration: Surfing the waves of change

By Sab

Just browsing the news headlines and watching any current affairs programmes right now you can see the whole world is going through a transitional process.

Sometimes when the papers and TV shows talk about the recession and economy (particularly in the UK), it can come across like we’ve already gone through the transition – from prosperity to the recession. But no – change doesn’t work like that!

Change keeps coming, and as we try to navigate new waters we have to keep riding waves of the unexpected, challenges, and hopefully some nice surprises too. So whilst yes we are in a recession, we haven’t gone from one good solid place to a bad solid place – everything is unstable. Which means anything can happen.

And this is also true of career change – I don’t think you go from having a job you dislike to one you adore seamlessly and without a succession of changes to deal with. If any of you are experimenting trying to find that right career, or have identified it but have a whole lot of reasons stopping you from taking the plunge, or if you’re stuck in a job you dislike but can’t see any way out – stand up tall, grit your teeth and dive into that wave of change. They’ll keep coming at you; you’ll crash out on a few, you’ll bravely ride some with struggle, and you’ll master some of these waves of change naturally and inspirationally.
