Career Inspiration: Getting happy first

By Sab

Hi everyone,

This is the first in a regular series of blogs by me, Sab, sharing career change inspiration and ideas with you from across the 'net. If you stumble across anything yourself let us know about it in the comments!

In this first edition, I look at 'getting happy first' and putting career change to one side, and have a bundle of career change article links to wet your appetite - including MPs previous careers...

I want to redirect you to an article on the CareerShifters site Getting happy first .

It’s something I’ve been trying out this week as a career changer myself, and it’s been really good!

I’ve put ‘money making career’ to one side and just been looking out and signing up for any crazy thing that looks fun. So far I’ve run a 5k race (9am on a Saturday : sleepy-eyed madness, but good madness), been rollerblading, signed up to a freerunning session (y’know, when you jump down stairwells and across rooftops LOL), went to an experimental theatre show, gallery visits and a pedalo ride later…

Life has expanded already and it’s only been a week. No career epiphanies yet but I’m just enjoying the ride.

I’ve also found some career change online articles to share with you:

With the news chock-full of political content at the mo, here’s a light-hearted look at some MPs previous jobs before they went into politics. There’s some major career changes in there….

The Masterchef 2010 competitors… we had a children’s doctor, writer, and an IT worker in the final three who are now pursing new careers in food. Here’s an article about previous competitors who made dramatic career changes into the food industry
Masterchef winners: Where are they now?

An inspiring short film has been made about people making the most of unemployment in a recession, and finding better ways of working - plenty of examples not just in the film but on the film’s promotional website of people who have made their dream career change
